Edward George Hoath—known as George—was born 20th September 1957 in Dirranbandi Qld, the 3rd child (of 6 children)- Daphne (Dolly), John (Pussy), Marianne, Peter, and Ian (Mick)- of John Mark Hoath (Jack)1919-1998 and Enid (nee Johnstone).
George attended St Joseph’s Convent Dirranbandi for his primary schooling and then Dirranbandi State High School for years 8-10. After school he went ‘chasing scrub cattle’ with his dad and co. including brother ‘Pussy’ until he received word of a job at the Dirranbandi Post Office. He began work as a telegram boy and moved on to relief for counter staff. In 1979 he moved to Mt Morgan Post Office where he met Debbie Robinson. They were married in 1982 and have 3 daughters- Kirsty, Jennifer and Rebecca. George and Debbie moved to Helidon in 1988 where they bought the grocery store, moving back to Mt Morgan in 1992 to lease the pub for 6 months. Then, in 1993 they moved to Jandowae where they leased the Pub for 6 years. After the lease ran out George worked at the sawmill in Jandowae until it closed.
When he passed George was working on the Council in Jandowae as a slasher/driver, a job he loved. He idolised his 3 girls, sons-in-law and 7 grandchildren.
He played squash and was a keen lawn bowler which he started playing in the 1980’s. He was a loyal community member, including President of the Condamine District Bowls, member of Jandowae Bowls Club, ‘Fishhooks’ Rugby League Club, Jandowae Squash Club and the Jandowae Race Club.
George passed away aged 64 after falling ill while playing squash. He rests in the Jandowae cemetery, as this is where he and Deb have made their home.
His father ‘Jack/Bushman’ and brother ‘John/Pussy’ are both resting in the Dirranbandi cemetery.
At the time of his death in 2022, George’s mother Enid still lives in the original family home in Dirranbandi.
