John Mark Hoath (Jnr) — known as ‘Pussy’ — was born 23rd June 1956 in Dirranbandi Qld, the 2nd child (of 6 children) to John Mark Hoath (Snr) (1919-2012) and Enid (nee Johnstone) (1932-). 'Pussy' has 2 sisters and 3 brothers – Daphne (Dolly), Edward (George), Marianne, Peter and Ian (Mick).
His nickname ‘Pussy’ came about when his big sister ‘Dolly’ saw him as a baby she called him ‘Pussy’ and said “well arn’t that what a pussy cat look like?" and the name stuck with him.
After he completed school—firstly at the St Joseph’s Convent and then the Dirranbandi Secondary Department— ‘Pussy’ went out to work on Ballandool Station near Dirranbandi. In 1975 at the age of 19 he married Glenda Hicks also from Dirranbandi and they had one child, a daughter Julie (Shaw). They lived and worked around the Dirranbandi district, Pussy being a good stockman would work wherever he was needed, doing all sorts of stock work including lamb marking and cattle droving. He was a keen polocross player and bull rider as well as ‘the pickup man’ at rodeos. He and Glenda bought a home in Charles Street Dirranbandi where they lived till, they partnered with his sister ‘Dolly’ and her then husband Ray to buy a property called Wyagdon near Dirranbandi, which they managed together.
In 2011, the year before he passed away, ‘Pussy’ won the Canning Downs Cup at the Warwick Rodeo Camp Draft. He passed away from Cancer, in the Dirranbandi hospital on the 24th of April 2012.
Pussy is resting beside his father John (Jack) Hoath. Glenda Hoath, passed away on the 16th of January 2023 and was cremated in Toowoomba. His brother George rests in the Jandowae Cemetery Qld.
