Una (Berg) Olive Crawley 1926 - 1977

UNA OLIVE CRAWLEY (nee Weatherall) was born (under a tree) on Narine Station Dirranbandi on the 8th December 1926; the fourth child —of 14 children— of Gordon Cleveland Weatherall and Gladys Weatherall (nee Orcher). Una’s Maternal Grandparents and Paternal Grandmother are Indigenous to the Dirranbandi area and further south- Euahlayi, Kamilaroi/Goomeroi & Kooma. Her Paternal Grandfather —William Weatherall — was an Englishman born in Lopen, Somerset, England. Una rests next to her beloved husband ‘Jimmy’ James/Jim Crawley. While they were courting, she went to work in the Bundaberg hospital (as a cook) and Jim fondly called her ‘Una Berg’ hence the inscription ‘Berg’ at the foot of her grave. Jim and Una built a home in Ida St Dirranbandi where they raised their three Children; Lloyd, Debbie and Tania. Many other family members lived with Jim and Una over the years none more special than Jim’s nephew Brian Milverton who came to live with them in 1965 at the age of 15. Brian stayed and eventually owned the Dirranbandi Post Office on and off until 2014. Una worked at the Dirranbandi state school as the cleaner for many years until she was too ill to work. She was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia in 1972, she passed away at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane on the 3rd July 1977 and returned by train to her final resting place- Dirranbandi.
