Cafe 22 Building History

History of the building at 22 Railway St Dirranbandi. Qld 4486

is situated on the corner of Railway and Richardson Streets at number 22 Railway St Dirranbandi Qld. 4486. Prior to being named Cafe 22 it was called ‘The Tucka Shack’ and had various other names previously- The Big Frog Cafe & Dirranbandi Bakery among others.

The building pictured above which originally sat on this corner was the Bank of NSW, a timber building which is now someone’s home in Horace St Dirranbandi.

The picture shows the old bank was moved backwards to make way for the building of the vault and new bank in its place on the corner, prior to being moved to Horace Street.

This photo of the Bank of NSW building was taken in approx 1980. The ‘Wales Savings Bank and emblem’ can still be seen on the front of the building right hand side. The ‘Bank Johnny’s residence is still attached and is where the cafe owners live.
